Nikhil Nanda, the Chairman and Managing Director of Escorts Kubota, and the son-in-law of Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan, is embroiled in a serious legal controversy. He has been accused of fraud and abetment to suicide, with a case filed against him in the Badaun district of Uttar Pradesh.
The Allegations Against Nikhil Nanda
The legal action stems from the tragic death of Jitendra Singh, a businessman who ran Jai Kisan Traders, a tractor dealership in Dataganj. According to reports, Singh was allegedly pressured by Nanda and other senior executives of Escorts Kubota to meet unrealistic sales targets. Facing mounting stress and threats that his dealership licence would be revoked, Singh took his own life in November 2024.
Following Singh’s death, his brother Gyanendra filed a police complaint, accusing Nanda and multiple senior officials of Escorts Kubota of fraud, intimidation, and pushing Singh to suicide. The complaint named not only Nanda but also other company leaders, including area and sales managers, as well as a local dealer from Shahjahanpur.

Nikhil Nanda is a prominent business leader with deep roots in Bollywood and Indian corporate circles. Married to Shweta Bachchan, daughter of Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan, Nanda is also a member of the legendary Kapoor family. His mother, Ritu Nanda, was the daughter of Raj Kapoor, and his uncles include Bollywood icons Rishi Kapoor, Randhir Kapoor, and Rajiv Kapoor.
Nanda’s educational background includes schooling at The Doon School in Dehradun and business management studies at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. As the head of Escorts Kubota, he has played a pivotal role in expanding the company’s presence in India’s agricultural machinery market.
Silence from the Bachchan Family
Despite the gravity of the allegations, Nikhil Nanda has not made any public statements. Similarly, the Bachchan family, known for their significant influence in both the entertainment and business worlds, has chosen to remain silent on the matter.
Nikhil and Shweta Bachchan share two children: Navya Naveli Nanda, a women’s rights advocate and podcaster, and Agastya Nanda, who recently made his Bollywood debut with The Archies.
