Junaid Safdar, son of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, tied the knot with Shanzeh Ali, granddaughter of senior PML-N leader Rohail Asghar, in a nikah ceremony held in Lahore on Saturday. The Junaid Safdar wedding drew significant attention from political and social circles.
The nikah was solemnised by the sajjada nashin of the shrine of Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jilani. Meanwhile, the bride’s consent was formally taken by Council of Islamic Ideology Chairman Mufti Raghib Hussain Naeemi. This added a religious and traditional touch to the ceremony.
For the occasion, Junaid Safdar opted for an elegant ivory sherwani paired with a gold-toned turban. At the same time, Shanzeh Ali looked radiant in a traditional pink bridal ensemble, accessorised with classic jewellery.
The ceremony was attended by a large number of prominent political figures and family members. Among those present were PML-N President Nawaz Sharif, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Hamza Shehbaz, Salman Shehbaz, Hussain Nawaz, Hassan Nawaz, senior PML-N leaders and several foreign guests.
The valima reception is scheduled for Sunday at Jati Umra Farms, with approximately 800 guests expected to attend. In addition, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, federal and provincial ministers, senior politicians and international guests are likely to be present at the event.
Prior to the nikah, a mehndi ceremony was held on Friday at Jati Umra, attended by close family and friends. Junaid Safdar wore a deep navy-blue traditional kurta with golden buttons, complemented by a golden-brown shawl. This attire reflected a classic festive look.
The wedding festivities of Junaid Safdar and Shanzeh Ali have drawn widespread interest. This marks another high-profile family event for the Sharif household in Lahore.
