Pakistan mourns the loss of one of its most respected scholars, researchers, and educationists — Dr. Arfa Sayeda Zehra, who passed away in Lahore. The news of Dr. Arfa Sayeda Zehra’s death has deeply saddened the nation.
Dr. Zehra was a distinguished academic figure. She completed her BA (Honors) from Lahore College for Women University, earned her Master’s degree from Government College University Lahore, and later achieved a PhD in History from the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
Throughout her illustrious career, Dr. Arfa Sayeda Zehra served as Principal of Lahore College for Women University. She also chaired the National Commission on the Status of Women. In addition, she mentored generations of students and contributed significantly to Pakistan’s academic landscape.
Beyond academia, Dr. Zehra was a familiar face on PTV, where she hosted insightful programs highlighting Lahore’s historical heritage. She particularly focused on its famous twelve gates.
President Asif Ali Zardari expressed deep sorrow over her passing, calling it an irreplaceable loss for Pakistan’s intellectual and literary community. In his condolence message, he praised Dr. Zehra’s lifelong dedication to knowledge, research, and the promotion of the Urdu language. He noted that her contributions will continue to inspire future generations.
The President extended his heartfelt condolences to her family, colleagues, and the wider academic community. Furthermore, he prayed for the departed soul’s eternal peace.
