Director shares updates on sequel plans and a potential reunion with Salman Khan
As Bajrangi Bhaijaan approaches its 10-year anniversary on July 17, filmmaker Kabir Khan has opened up about the possibility of a sequel and his plans to collaborate once again with superstar Salman Khan.
In an exclusive conversation with Pinkvilla, Kabir Khan said he remains in touch with all actors he’s worked with — including Salman. The duo has previously delivered box office hits like Ek Tha Tiger, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, and Tubelight. Fans have been eagerly awaiting another collaboration.
“I would love to work with Salman again,” Kabir shared. “But it has to be the right story and the right script. We’re not looking to reunite just for the sake of an announcement. It has to be something that excites both of us.”
The director confirmed that discussions are ongoing: “We’ve been bouncing ideas back and forth. If one of them clicks, it might just be my next big announcement.”
On Bajrangi Bhaijaan 2: Still in Early Talks
When asked about the much-anticipated sequel to Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Kabir Khan revealed that conversations are happening — but nothing is finalized yet. “Yes, we’ve talked about it. But we’re treading carefully. In today’s era of franchises, it’s tempting to cash in, but Bajrangi Bhaijaan is too special. We want to protect its legacy,” he explained.
He emphasized that both he and Salman Khan are in agreement that a sequel should only be made if the story matches the emotional and cultural impact of the original.
“We’re not interested in making a film just to profit off the name. If the right story comes to us — whether now or a year later — we’ll absolutely move forward with Bajrangi Bhaijaan 2,” he added.
Kabir Khan’s Take on Franchise Films
Known for steering away from sequel culture throughout his career, Kabir admits Bajrangi Bhaijaan 2 might be an exception. “This would be my first sequel, and only because I believe it can bring immense joy to audiences. But it has to be for the right reasons, not just box office numbers,” he said.
