Maaran, a film starring Dhanush and directed by Karthick Naren, was released on Disney+ and Hotstar without a theatrical release and is a disappointment. The film’s plot and so-called surprises are so clichéd that it will be difficult to keep your interest.
His father, Sathyamoorthy (Ramki), was a crime reporter who lost his life after doing an expose. Dhanush is a crime reporter who always wants to talk, and tell people nothing but the truth, following in his footsteps.
He exposes a swindle with the aid of a buddy who is a policeman (Arjun). Pazhani (Samuthirakhani), a former minister who wants to restore his lost glory, is behind this scheme that involves bogus EVMs. As a result, Maaran neglects to think about the well-being of his sister Shwetha (Smruthi Venkat). Is this the turning point of his life? Now, can Maaran be able to reveal the truth and rescue his sister at the same time? Is he going to discover the film’s secret?
Maaran is a classic sister emotion film with an investigative journalism setting directed by Karthick Naren. This has changed dramatically from the beginning of the film, when there was no emotional link between the brother and the feeling.
Dhanush is a fantastic performer who never fails to impress. He can’t do much in this film since the plot doesn’t allow him to. Even his performance couldn’t rescue him from the dreadful script he was given. Much of this film revolves on Maaran and his shrewd intellect, and there are times when Maaran learns much more than the police do. The twists and turns you witness in some of them will make you giggle as well.
Malavika Mohanan portrays Dhanush’s ladylove, a role that doesn’t appear very compelling. This love song should have been much better, and it serves just to amplify the sisterly feelings already there in the album. She doesn’t have a memorable part or a memorable entrance. Just chewing bubble gum and being Maaran’s best buddy is all she does in the movie.
Along with Samuthirakhani and Ameer, this film’s supporting cast also includes Aadukalam Naren (Aadu), Ramki (Ram), and Bose Venkat (Bose Venkat). The last 10 minutes of the climax are really compelling. ‘ The remainder of the movie, on the other hand, is very predictable. A lot could have occurred in the two and a half hours of running time if the tale had been crafted better.
