British-Pakistani musician Zayn Malik has shared a preview of his upcoming album. The former One Direction member teased new music with a brief clip last week. The music itself has overtones of rap-rock and a very cool groove, but it’s the music video that has fans going crazy on Twitter.

Without any explanation, Zayn posted a short clip of his new single to the microblogging site. In the video, he can be seen smoking a cigarette while standing on a bridge over the city, dressed in a leather jacket, and riding a bicycle. Perhaps the video’s shoddy production values were intentional, as neither the graphics nor the editing were particularly good.

A fan’s tweet that likened the Dusk Till Dawn singer to a “childhood crush” who became a Pakistani thug was the most popular. The tweet said, “It hurts so much to see my childhood crush. Become a gutka thukne wala maila (tobacco-spitting loafer) who hangs out in Mazar e Quaid.”

In his Spotify bio, Zayn mentioned that he would be releasing new music in the year 2023. Billboard reports that he has signed with Mercury Records. The release of his first song has been set for “very soon this summer,” per the label.

According to the publication’s sources, Zayn’s next song is a “departure from the sound that characterized. The albums Mind of Mine (2016), Icarus Falls (2018), and Nobody Is Listening (2021) are all part of his solo discography.
