Sikhs of America Extends Heartfelt Support to the Family of Martyred Granthi Bhai Amrik Singh in Jammu & Kashmir Attack

Washington, D.C. – In a deeply emotional and tragic moment for the global Sikh community, a recent terrorist attack in the Poonch district of Jammu & Kashmir claimed the life of Bhai Amrik Singh, a devoted Granthi and Ragi serving at a local Gurdwara Sahib. The attack not only targeted a religious institution but left behind a grieving family and community, with heightened tensions between India and Pakistan following the incident.

In a powerful gesture of solidarity and humanitarian support, Sikhs of America Inc., led by its Chairman Dr. Jasdip Singh Jesse, extended a helping hand to the bereaved family. During a formal Antim Ardaas (final prayer) ceremony, attended by members of the Sikh community, religious leaders, and supporters, Sikhs of America presented a cheque of ₹200,000 INR to the family of the Shaheed Granthi.

In addition to this immediate financial assistance, Sikhs of America has pledged full responsibility for the education of Bhai Amrik Singh’s children, committing to their long-term well-being and stability.

“This support is not just a financial contribution — it is a lifelong commitment to the children of Shaheed Bhai Amrik Singh Ji,” stated Dr. Jasdip Singh Jesse, Chairman of Sikhs of America.
“We want these children to grow up proud of their father’s legacy, knowing they are not alone. The Sikh community across the world stands with them. Their future is our shared responsibility.”

The check-handing ceremony served as a visual and emotional reinforcement of Sikh values — sewa (selfless service), compassion, and unity in the face of loss. Many community members wore Sikhs of America shirts and participated in prayers, while messages of remembrance and brotherhood echoed through the hall.

Bhai Amrik Singh was remembered not only as a religious leader, but as a gentle and dedicated soul who served the Sikh faith and community with immense humility. His sudden martyrdom left his wife and children in emotional and financial despair — a void that organizations like Sikhs of America are now stepping forward to fill.

“We believe in turning grief into action,” added Dr. Jesse.
“While we mourn with the family, we also take responsibility. Sikhs of America will ensure these children never feel the absence of support, security, or education — no matter what the cost.”

This gesture is part of Sikhs of America’s broader mission to respond to humanitarian crises, especially those affecting Sikhs and other minorities across the world. From civic advocacy and interfaith dialogue to disaster relief and educational support, the organization continues to carry the torch of Guru Nanak’s teachings — of equality, justice, and serving all humanity.

As the region remains tense and communities heal from the wounds of violence, this act of compassion has sent a powerful message: that even in loss, there is unity; even in suffering, there is support; and even in darkness, the Sikh spirit continues to shine with resilience.
