Pakistani actor Saba Qamar has landed in legal trouble after a petition was filed against her in the Sessions Court Lahore. She allegedly wore a police uniform without official permission. The court has taken notice of the matter. Therefore, it summoned the police to submit a report.
The petition was filed by advocate Aftab Bajwa on behalf of citizen Wasim Zawar. It states that under the law, no individual is allowed to wear a police uniform or use the insignia of a Senior Police (SP) officer without prior authorization from the relevant authorities.
According to the petitioner, a video circulating on social media shows Saba Qamar inside a dressing room. She is wearing an SP uniform. The plea claims that this act amounts to violations under Section 171 of the Pakistan Penal Code. This section deals with wearing the attire or symbols of a public servant with fraudulent intent. Additionally, Section 419 covers cheating by impersonation. Also, it carries a possible punishment of up to seven years in prison, along with a fine or both.
Advocate Bajwa further argued that a valid no-objection certificate (NOC) from the police is mandatory to legally wear a police uniform. An NOC is also required to display the official badge.
Additional Sessions Judge Ilyas Rehan has sought a detailed report from the Anarkali Police, Lahore. He is directing authorities to submit their findings by December 14.
