Until December 2026, California and Punjab will be sister states according to a resolution passed by the California Senate.

According to a press statement from the California Senate, Chris Holden presented the ACR 105, which was approved by the House of Representatives on February 14th.

Additionally, it was said that these exchanges would have a favorable influence on both areas.

About 110,000,000 people call Pakistan’s most populated province, Punjab, home. In Lahore, the nation’s capital, Pakistan’s film industry and most of the country’s fashion business have their roots and are headquartered. According to a statement, “agriculture continues to be Punjab’s biggest sector of the economy and serves as the country’s breadbasket, comparable to California.

As mentioned in the news release, Holden said that “a sister-state connection between California (and Punjab, Pakistan) will enhance bilateral trade and commerce and improve the possibility for educational, environmental and cultural linkages.”

Abdul Jabbar Memon, Pakistan’s Consul General in Los Angeles, praised the decision.

He tweeted: “The bill is expected to increase the potential for educational, environmental and cultural cooperation between the two regions”.

Meanwhile, the Governor of Punjab, Chaudhry Sarwar, thanked the state of California for formally establishing the relationship.

He tweeted that the development is the outcome of his visit to the US last year during which the resolution was introduced in the California State Assembly.
