Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s much-awaited digital debut, the epic saga web series “Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar,” is all set to premiere on Netflix on May 1, as reported by various Indian media outlets.
The announcement of the long-awaited release date was made in a spectacular fashion, with a drone light show held at the Mahalaxmi Race Course in South Mumbai. The star-studded event saw the cast of the series, including Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Richa Chadha, Sharmin Segal, and Sanjeeda Sheikh, alongside Prerna Singh, CEO of Bhansali Productions, and Tanya Bami, Director of Series at Netflix India.
Comprising eight episodes and set against the backdrop of the 1940s, “Heeramandi” delves into themes of love, power, revenge, and freedom, exploring the cultural reality of Lahore’s dazzling district through the tales of courtesans and their patrons.
The series has not only captivated audiences but has also left its mark on the cast. Sinha praised Bhansali for crafting a “dream-like world” that enveloped everyone involved in the production. Chadha, who previously collaborated with Bhansali, lauded his attention to detail and ability to bring out the best in his actors, emphasizing that nothing was done half-heartedly.
Koirala, who had previously worked with Bhansali, commended his unmatched work ethic. Created, directed, and produced by Bhansali himself, “Heeramandi” promises to offer viewers an immersive experience like never before. With just over a month left until its premiere, fans eagerly await to see if the series lives up to its anticipation.
