Pakistani superstar Fawad Khan is making his long-awaited Bollywood comeback with Abir Gulaal, set for a worldwide release on 29 August 2025. The romantic comedy, directed by Aarti S. Bagdi (Chalti Rahe Zindagi), features Fawad as a UK-based chef opposite Bollywood actress Vaani Kapoor.
Produced by Indian Stories, A Richer Lens, and Aarjay Pictures, with co-producers Vivek B. Agarwal, Avantika Hari, and Rakesh Sippy, Abir Gulaal promises to deliver a heartwarming cross-cultural story. The film also stars Lisa Haydon and Farida Jalal, adding to its star-studded lineup.
This project marks Fawad Khan’s return to Bollywood after nine years, following his acclaimed performances in Khoobsurat (2014), Kapoor & Sons, and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil—his last Indian film before the 2016 ban on Pakistani artists.
Originally slated for a May 9 release, Abir Gulaal was postponed due to restrictions imposed by India’s Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) in the aftermath of the April Palagham attack. While the film remains banned in India, international audiences will still be able to watch it this August.
The announcement has sparked excitement among fans, eager to see Fawad and Vaani’s on-screen chemistry in what is expected to be one of the most talked-about romantic comedies of the year.
