This was after Prime Minister Narendra Modi appealed this in the wake of fighting the coronavirus pandemic. The cases in India have increased rapidly. Bollywood celebrities chose to support the initiative.
Akshay Kumar, Karan Johar, Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, Rajinikanth, Alia Bhatt, Virat Kohli, Anushka Sharma, Madhuri Dixit, Kartik Aaryan, Kriti Sanon, among others decided to light diyas at their homes too.
