In fact, it is time for first-generation legal immigrants to take a stand against these issues. This crisis flouts our laws and contributes to rising incidents of crime and disorder. In this context, it is time for first-generation legal immigrants to take a stand to uphold the values we came for.
Therefore, it is time for first-generation legal immigrants, who possess the power of the ballot, to make their voices heard. A Growing Crisis of Safety
Recent fatal truck accidents involving unlicensed and undocumented drivers have shaken immigrant communities across the country, including the Sikh community. It’s indeed a time for legal immigrants to take a stand as these tragedies were not merely accidents; they were preventable disasters.
They were the direct result of policies that deliberately ignore immigration laws. These policies allow unverified and untrained individuals to operate vehicles and businesses with impunity. When such negligence costs innocent lives, it ceases to be a mere policy debate. It becomes a moral failing.
Why Legal Immigrants Must Support Law Enforcement
First-generation legal immigrants—especially those who understand the sacrifices required to follow the law—must take a firm stand. Indeed, time for First-Generation Legal Immigrants to Take a Stand by supporting law enforcement agencies, including ICE and the Department of Homeland Security.

Within the Sikh community and many others, awareness must grow that undocumented immigration harms everyone. Among other things, time for legal immigrants and community leaders to take a stand, as it creates an underground economy that exploits the vulnerable, depresses wages, and fuels resentment among law-abiding residents.
Consequently, community leaders must speak openly against undocumented immigration. We must encourage those without status to pursue lawful avenues. If their cases are denied, they should self-deport and respect the country’s laws.
Legal immigrants are often in the best position to guide those being misled. Unscrupulous lawyers and “consultants” often file fake asylum claims or fraudulent petitions. Instead of remaining silent, we should act as responsible stewards. We must guide others toward compliance rather than complicity.
Holding Politicians Accountable
Governors and policymakers who have championed sanctuary policies—such as California Governor Gavin Newsom—must be held accountable for the consequences of their actions.
These leaders create an environment that shields undocumented individuals from deportation. This is not compassion; it is encouraging lawlessness. The tragic deaths caused by unlicensed drivers are a direct result of policies that prioritize ideology over public safety. Time for first-generation legal immigrants to take a stand and hold leaders accountable.
