Bollywood star Salman Khan and his sister, Alvira Khan Agnihotri, have been summoned by a district court in Chandigarh. This is in connection with a complaint involving the Being Human jewellery brand.
The court has directed Salman Khan, Alvira Khan Agnihotri and officials linked to the company licensed to operate the Being Human jewellery business to appear on October 5.
What is the Being Human jewellery case?
The complaint was filed by businessman Arun Gupta. He alleged that he invested around INR 300 million to establish a Being Human jewellery outlet in Chandigarh’s Manimajra. This followed an agreement with the company authorised to market the brand.
According to the complaint, approximately INR 100 million was spent on setting up the showroom. Gupta has alleged that business operations were later disrupted, causing significant financial losses.
Dispute dates back to 2021
The matter dates back to July 2021. At that time, police had questioned Salman Khan, Alvira Khan Agnihotri and six other individuals. These included officials associated with the Being Human Foundation and the company’s jewellery licensing operations.
At the time, the Being Human Foundation denied involvement in the dispute. The organisation stated that the matter concerned the licensed jewellery company and another party. It maintained that neither the foundation, Salman Khan, Alvira Khan Agnihotri nor their representatives had signed the memorandum of understanding at the centre of the complaint.
The foundation also clarified that while Salman Khan owns the Being Human brand, he is not a trustee of the Being Human Foundation.
The latest court summons has brought the long-running Being Human jewellery dispute back into the spotlight.
