Music composer Amaal Mallik has opened up about collaborating with Arijit Singh for Emraan Hashmi’s upcoming film Awarapan 2, explaining that the singer personally chose to record the song despite stepping back from regular film playback work.
The highly anticipated sequel is scheduled to arrive in theatres on August 14, 2026.
Amaal Mallik on Arijit Singh’s return to film music
In an interview with Pinkvilla, Amaal Mallik explained that Arijit Singh’s decision to reduce his involvement in film music was entirely his own. According to Amaal, those who had worked closely with the singer had already noticed his changing approach to film music before he publicly announced his decision.
Amaal also stressed that having a famous singer attached to a song does not automatically guarantee success. He said the quality of the composition, lyrics and the chemistry between the singer and creative team ultimately determine whether a song connects with listeners.
How Arijit Singh joined Awarapan 2
Amaal revealed that the song was not an old recording or the result of a previous agreement. He had initially performed the song himself, and it remained in his voice for nearly a year.
The composer explained that he and Arijit often exchange music. Amaal typically sends several songs to the singer, and if Arijit connects with one of them, they work on it together.
Interestingly, Amaal said Arijit initially questioned why he should sing the track because he felt Amaal had already performed it well. However, after Amaal insisted that Arijit was the right voice for the song, the singer eventually recorded it a few months before the film’s release.
Amaal says Arijit has not stopped making music
Amaal described Arijit as an artist who comes along only once in a generation. He also pushed back against speculation that the Awarapan 2 song marks Arijit’s permanent return or final recording.
According to Amaal, Arijit may continue recording songs whenever a project or composition inspires him. He emphasized that Arijit has stepped away from film music, not music itself.
The collaboration has already generated considerable interest among fans, particularly because it brings together Arijit Singh’s distinctive voice and Amaal Mallik’s music for the much-awaited Awarapan 2.
