Former MP Raj Babbar was sentenced to two years in prison by a Lucknow MP/MLA court in a case dating back to 1996.

The actor-turned-politician has also been fined Rs 8,500 by the court.

When the punishment was read aloud in court, the former MP was there to hear it.
Lok Sabha elections of 1996, the Congress leader has been found guilty of interfering with official functions and assaulting a government employee.

Babbar was a member of the Samajwadi Party at the time and was running for office in Lucknow as a candidate.
