Assaulting a government official in 1996 landed actor-politician Raj Babbar in jail for two years

The actor-turned-politician has also been fined Rs 8,500 by the court.

When the punishment was read aloud in court, the former MP was there to hear it.

Babbar was a member of the Samajwadi Party at the time and was running for office in Lucknow as a candidate.
