Television host and social media personality Mathira has called for a shift in how society raises boys. She said men are often expected to suppress their emotions while carrying overwhelming responsibilities. In recent interviews about Mathira on men expressing emotions, she believes emotional awareness should be encouraged from childhood. This, she explained, would help men become better fathers, husbands, and family members.
Speaking in a recent interview, Mathira said society places immense pressure on men to remain emotionally strong. As a result, men have little room for vulnerability.
“Men also suffer in this society. We’ve turned them into machines. They’re expected to carry endless responsibilities but aren’t allowed to express their emotions,” she said.
The television host explained that this emotional suppression often affects men’s relationships and mental well-being. According to her, teaching boys that it’s okay to cry, feel sad, or experience depression can help create healthier families. This would also result in stronger emotional connections.
Mathira emphasized that parents—not television or social media—play the biggest role in shaping emotionally intelligent children.
She urged mothers and fathers to create a healthy home environment where children feel safe expressing their feelings. “Parents decide what children watch, what they learn, and the values they grow up with,” she noted.
As a mother of three sons, Mathira shared that she has always encouraged her children to communicate openly about their emotions.
“I’ve taught my sons that it’s okay to cry, admit they’re having a bad day, and share their feelings without fear of judgment,” she said.
Mathira also highlighted the importance of teaching boys to respect women and avoid making judgments based on appearances.
Growing up in a women-led household with her mother and sister, she said her sons understand the challenges women face.
Reflecting on her experience as a divorced single mother, Mathira added that both men and women should embrace emotional balance.
She believes men should develop emotional sensitivity, while women should cultivate confidence and resilience to navigate life’s challenges.
Beyond television, Mathira continues to use her social media platforms and podcast appearances to discuss important social issues. These include parenting, mental health, and public awareness.
