Amitabh Bachchan Reveals Why He Worked on 15 Films at Once: ‘I Was Afraid I Wouldn’t Get More Work’

Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan has opened up about the relentless pace of his early acting career, revealing that the fear of losing work pushed him to juggle as many as 10 to 15 films simultaneously. Interestingly, Amitabh Bachchan worked on 15 films simultaneously and that demanding schedule speaks volumes about his commitment. Despite becoming one of Indian cinema’s biggest icons, the veteran actor admitted that job insecurity was a major driving force during his rise to stardom.

Amitabh Bachchan Reflects on the Challenges of His Early Career

In a recent post on his personal blog, the 83-year-old actor looked back at how filmmaking has evolved over the decades, comparing today’s preparation-heavy approach with the fast-paced working style of Bollywood’s golden era when Amitabh Bachchan worked on 15 films simultaneously during his prime.

Bachchan praised modern actors for their dedication to character development, saying that today’s performers invest significant time in research, physical transformations, and understanding their roles before filming begins.

According to him, such extensive preparation simply wasn’t possible during his generation because actors often worked on multiple films at the same time. In those days, Amitabh Bachchan worked on 15 films simultaneously, which made concentrated preparation challenging.

Working on 10–15 Films Simultaneously

Recalling those hectic days, Bachchan shared that he frequently shot for two or three different films in a single day, leaving little or no time to prepare for each character individually.

Instead of lengthy rehearsals, actors depended heavily on directors and assistant directors, who would quickly explain the scene moments before the cameras started rolling.

Fear of Unemployment Fueled the Hustle

Explaining why actors accepted such demanding schedules, Bachchan admitted that the biggest motivation was the fear of not getting future opportunities.

He said that performers of his generation worked tirelessly because they constantly worried about whether another film offer would come. Rather than questioning the workload, they focused on giving their best to every role assigned to them, just as Amitabh Bachchan worked on 15 films simultaneously without hesitation.

Bachchan also recalled that actors often had to wait months for a film’s release before they could finally see how their performances appeared on the big screen.

A Different Era of Bollywood

The veteran actor noted that today’s filmmaking process gives actors more time to prepare, rehearse, and fully immerse themselves in their characters. While he admires the modern approach, he believes his generation adapted to a much faster production environment where versatility and quick transitions between roles were essential.

Even after decades in the industry, Amitabh Bachchan continues to share valuable insights into Bollywood’s evolution, offering fans a rare glimpse into the discipline and determination that shaped one of the greatest careers in Indian cinema.
