The incident occurred at Civil Sandeman Hospital in Quetta, where postgraduate doctor Dr Mahnoor was reportedly attacked with acid while performing her duties in the surgical ward. Authorities stated that the alleged attacker fled the scene. However, he was later killed during a police encounter.
The shocking attack triggered widespread outrage on social media, with actors, activists and members of the public raising concerns about the safety of women and healthcare workers.
Public support intensified after Dr Mahnoor’s colleague, Dr Usama Khan, shared an emotional tribute on Instagram. He described her as a vibrant and dedicated doctor. Additionally, he expressed heartbreak over witnessing a fellow healthcare professional become the victim of such a brutal act.
In his message, Dr Usama highlighted the painful reality of treating a colleague injured by violence. He emphasized that healthcare workers dedicate their lives to saving others. Yet, they often lack adequate protection themselves. Furthermore, he called for accountability and justice while praising Dr Mahnoor’s courage and resilience.
She called the incident “barbaric” and “evil.” Moreover, the actor urged both men and women to speak out more forcefully against violence targeting women.
Yasir Hussain and Saheefa Jabbar Khattak also condemned the attack. They criticized societal attitudes that often blame or scrutinize victims rather than addressing the mindset that enables violence. Saheefa noted that everyday acts of misogyny and moral policing contribute to a culture that normalizes more severe forms of gender-based violence.
