50 Years On, Behroze Sabzwari Is Still the Qabacha We Love — A Legacy That Refuses to Fade

Half a century later, legendary Pakistani actor Behroze Sabzwari remains as memorable as ever. This proves that true talent and integrity only grow stronger with time. Celebrating 50 remarkable years in the entertainment industry, the evergreen star was honoured at a special tribute organised by the Lifestyle Journalists Association. The event brought together artists, diplomats and close friends who have been part of his extraordinary journey. It is truly an inspiration to witness Behroze Sabzwari 50 years in the spotlight.

The milestone event reflected not just the length of Sabzwari’s career, but the depth of relationships he has built over decades. Senior and emerging names from film and television attended, including Javed Sheikh, Bushra Ansari, Saleem Sheikh, Rubina Ashraf, Shabbir Jan, Nabeel, Shehroz Sabzwari, Sadaf Kanwal, Shehzad Nawaz. Media and cultural figures such as Dr Rafia Rafiq, Amjad Shah, Dr Farooq Sattar and Saleem Javed also attended. Adding an international touch, the Consul Generals of Thailand, Russia and Australia were also present. Clearly, Behroze Sabzwari 50 years have impacted many lives.

A cake-cutting ceremony marked the occasion. This was followed by a nostalgic showreel showcasing Sabzwari’s 50-year artistic journey. It reminded audiences why his presence has been so enduring. For many fans, Behroze Sabzwari 50 years symbolise the enduring love for Pakistani entertainment.

Speaking at the event, his son Shehroz Sabzwari highlighted his father’s influence beyond acting. He shared how Sabzwari instilled in him an appreciation for quality, honesty and good work. These values shaped both his personal and professional life.

Veteran actor Javed Sheikh described Sabzwari as not only a gifted performer but also a deeply reliable human being. Sabzwari is someone who stands by fellow artists in difficult times. Sheikh recalled their long friendship and shared business ventures. He also praised Sabzwari’s unwavering loyalty — qualities he called increasingly rare.

Bushra Ansari summed up the sentiment simply, calling him “a beloved artist who has won all our hearts,” while Rubina Ashraf shared a touching personal anecdote about Sabzwari supporting her during illness. Ashraf called him her strongest support system in Karachi.

Reflecting on his own journey, Sabzwari spoke candidly about the realities of sustaining a career in entertainment. Despite iconic roles, he revealed that he sold cars for nearly 30 years when television work was not financially sufficient. This is a reminder of the resilience behind long-term success. He also acknowledged prestigious honours like the Pride of Performance (2009) and Sitara-e-Imtiaz (2023). He dedicated them to his teachers and mentors. Notably, Behroze Sabzwari 50 years stand as a testament to artistic dedication.

While Sabzwari has appeared in countless dramas and films, he admitted that Qabacha from Haseena Moin’s classic Tanhaiyaan became his defining identity. He started as a school student at Radio Pakistan. Later, he rose to fame through Khuda Ki Basti (1974). After that, he went on to star in iconic projects such as Ankahi, Mera Naam Hai Mangu, Hanste Baste, Mandi, Chhote Baray Log, Seth and Company and many more. His film career, largely known for comedy, includes titles like Punjab Nahi Jaungi, Chalay Thay Saath and Neelofar.

Five decades later, Behroze Sabzwari’s story is more than a celebration of longevity — it is a masterclass in consistency, adaptability and human connection. In an industry defined by change, his legacy proves that authenticity never goes out of style.
