Kajol’s latest supernatural thriller “Maa”, directed by Vishal Furia, witnessed a slight jump in collections on Day 5 thanks to the popular ‘Discount Tuesday’ offer. The film added ₹2.75 crore net on Tuesday, pushing its 5-day total to ₹22.75 crore net at the Indian box office. The discounted ticket pricing at ₹149 played a key role in boosting footfalls.

Maa Targets ₹27 Crore Net in Week 1

With ticket prices returning to normal from Wednesday, Maa is expected to see the usual midweek drop in collections. The film is projected to close its first week with a total between ₹26.5 to ₹27 crore net, a decent figure considering the stiff competition from other releases like Sitaare Zameen Par and F1. If not for the heavy competition in Week 2, the film was on track to easily achieve a ₹40 crore lifetime total. Now, with Metro…In Dino and Jurassic World: Rebirth hitting theatres, even crossing ₹35 crore will be a challenge.

Maa’s Budget and Profitability: All Under Control

Despite being a moderately high-budget film, Maa’s economics are balanced. The makers secured strong profits by selling non-theatrical rights (OTT, satellite, and digital) at premium rates, largely due to the film’s association with the “Shaitaan” cinematic universe. A global share of ₹18-20 crore will further contribute to the film’s revenue.

What’s Next for Kajol? Upcoming Projects

After Maa, Kajol will star in “Sarzameen”, alongside Prithviraj Sukumaran and Ibrahim Ali Khan, which is set to premiere on JioHotstar from 25th July 2025. Her next theatrical release is yet to be officially announced.
