This year’s Academy Awards will not include Will Smith, since he has accepted a 10-year suspension. During last month’s award ceremony, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ board of governors agreed to prohibit the 53-year-old Best Actor winner from participating in Oscar ceremonies and other Academy events for the next 10 years.

“I accept and respect the Academy’s decision,” Smith stated in a statement,

according to People. It was announced on Friday that Mr. Smith would be barred from attending any Academy events or activities, including the Oscars, for the next decade, beginning on April 8, 2022. The Academy stated in a statement that the Board of Governors “has determined.” He’ll be keeping his Oscar for his role in King Richard, however, which he won this year at the age of 53.

When Jada Pinkett Smith made fun of the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air star’s shorn head on March 27, the actor struck Rock, 57, across the face. Alopecia, a condition that causes hair loss, affects the Girls Trip actress, who is 50 years old. A day after winning his Oscar, Smith issued a statement on Instagram stating that “Violence in all of its forms is toxic and destructive.

I am sorry for any offense I may have caused.” My conduct at the Academy Awards ceremony on Sunday night was terrible and unforgivable. Jokes at my expense are commonplace, but one regarding my daughter’s health was too much for him to stomach, and he responded emotionally.

But Rock chose not to press charges and hasn’t spoken anything publicly about the matter.
