The Ministry of Human Rights has launched Pakistan’s first-ever Human Rights Resource Portal in collaboration with the European Union.

The new platform will serve as an updated archive for human rights and will apprise users of their rights as provided in the constitution, and federal and provincial regulations.

The Minister for Human Rights, Shireen Mazari, announced the launching of the portal on Twitter, lauding the government for establishing “a comprehensive repository of updates on all information related to human rights, the laws in Pakistan, the international conventions that Pakistan has signed, and also, the human rights commitments and the training resources and programs that the Ministry is undertaking”.

Mazari added that the new platform provides the latest updates on the status of prisoners, penitentiaries, and child abuse in the country.

She stressed the importance of having access to information in real-time and remarked that “the comprehensive collection and digitalization of key information about human rights in Pakistan and open access to all Pakistani citizens is an important step towards this goal”.

Shireen Mazari has encouraged the nation to access the new portal to get updated on what the government is doing to handle the human rights situation in the country. This will “cultivate greater civic engagement and play a part in creating an enabling environment for citizens to exercise their rights in Pakistan”, she added.

The European Union Ambassador, Androulla Kaminara, also spoke about the portal and appreciated Pakistan’s democratic stance on governing its people.
