The Sikhs of America condemn and denounces in the strongest terms the planned burning of the Indian flag on the occasion of India’s Republic Day outside the Indian embassy in Washington, DC. Sikhs reside and have businesses all over India and a global presence. Such theatrical protests like flag burning are detrimental to the peace-loving and harmony-enhancing Sikh community everywhere,” the joint statement issued by Kamaljit Singh Soni, President, and Jesse Singh, Chairman of Sikhs of America, said.
“We urge Sikhs for Justice to have a dialogue with the Indian government regarding any issues and desist from such petty actions,”
For the last few months, good news has been coming for the Sikh community in India and abroad,” Jasdip Singh, chairman of Sikhs of America, said as he praised the role of the Indian government in bringing to justice some of the accused involved in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
“We see some light at the end of the tunnel. However, there is a lot to be done,” Singh said, hoping that other politicians involved in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots would also be brought to justice in the coming weeks and months.
He said the government had addressed most of their concerns, including removing some Sikhs from the visa blacklist.
