It just takes a few of seconds to change someone’s life. Jalsa, an Amazon Original Movie, follows the lives of a young journalist who is thrust into the spotlight when she accidentally causes the death of a distant cousin’s child. The fight between the truth and the lies is only one of the themes explored by the film’s authors and director.

You won’t get bored since the movie moves quickly. It doesn’t get preachy or loud and allows you think what you want as an audience, despite the fact that it alludes to socioeconomic discrepancies impacting Shefali and Vidya’s life choices.

In this Suresh Triveni-directed film, Vidya Balan plays the city’s most well-known prime-time news presenter, Maya Menon, and Shefali Shah plays her house maid, Ruksana Mohammed, who looks after her and a physically challenged kid.

Every time they appear in front of the camera, they keep the audience on their toes, their hearts racing, and their adrenaline pumping. With each passing frame, you can sense their deceit, loyalty, helplessness, and ambition in every heartbeat. Even though Vidya’s character is the focus of the plot, Shefali’s is just as compelling.

It would have been nice to see more of the supporting characters in action, but they’re still excellent. We all know what Manav Kaul is capable of, and as the estranged husband, he should have been given more leeway to show his skills. Rukmini, played by Maya’s mother Rohini Hattangadi, also benefited from some more screen time.

It is up to the reader to judge whether or not the heroes’ actions were morally correct, much as in a modern film. Thus, the climax is both open-ended and clear. This isn’t a situation where you’re left dangling at a fork in the road. Because it’s intellectual movie, you can count on us to be there!

It is presently available on Amazon Prime Video, starting March 18th.
