India becomes 7th worst-hit nation by COVID-19 with over 5,000 deaths

Amid the surging coronavirus cases and deaths, India became the 7th most-affected country out of the 10 worst-hit nations from COVID-19 with an increase of 8,392 cases over the last 24 hours, taking the nation-wide tally to 1,90,535 to date.

The country saw the spike in cases after the government eased lockdown conditions to allow free movement of people and resume financial activity as the country buckled beneath the weight of the coronavirus.

According to the data from the Union Health Ministry, India now stands at the seventh spot in the list of 10 nations worst hit by the pandemic, with more cases than that of France.
The US has so far reported over 1.83 million cases of the virus, making it the nation with the most number of confirmed cases. However, Brazil follows with over 500,000 cases to date.

PM Modi on Sunday cautioned people against showing any laxity in the fight against COVID-19 and asked them to be

“extra alert and careful”, while acknowledging that the poor and labourers have been hit the hardest by the crisis.
