Adnan Siddiqui, a well-known Pakistani actor, has voiced his disapproval of Bollywood’s T-Series for remixing Reshma’s classic song “Akhiyaan De Kol” for the upcoming film Do Patti. Originally performed by the legendary Reshma, the new version has stirred controversy for altering a beloved piece of musical heritage.
The revamped song, featured in Kriti Sanon’s debut production Do Patti, has faced severe backlash on social media. Siddiqui took to platform X (formerly Twitter) to express his frustration, stating, “Imitation can be flattering, but not when it means tearing apart a classic by a legend. Please show some respect for Reshma jee and her legacy.”
Fans and social media users echoed Siddiqui’s sentiments, flooding the YouTube comments with criticism, many accusing Bollywood of “stealing” Pakistani music. Critics lamented the treatment of Reshma’s song, with one commenting, “They’ve ruined one of the best songs.”
The original version of “Akhiyaan De Kol” was penned by Sehrai Gurdas Puri and has been celebrated for decades. The new rendition, composed by Tanishk Bagchi, features vocals by Shilpa Rao with lyrics by Kausar Munir.
Do Patti, starring Kajol, Tanvi Azmi, and Brijendra Kala, will be available on Netflix from October 25.
